#SundaySketch (posted on a Tuesday) - Fashion Industry tied for 5th most polluting industry

Source: Ecocult, Pulse of the Industry Report (May 2017) - the Global Fashion Agenda & The Boston Consulting Group

So here's a terrifying thought; the fashion industry was collectively responsible for 32.1 billion tons of global carbon emissions in 2015. The industry is currently tied with Livestock in 5th place. Meaning the production of meat is just as polluting as procuring textiles/producing/ shipping clothing. As written in Ecocult, the fashion industry is entwined in many of the other polluting industries listed above. "Electricity (often from dirty sources like coal and diesel generators) powers the garment factories. Cotton is an agricultural product. A small portion of clothing's journey is done by road transportation. Polyester is made from plastic, which is from petroleum product. Leather is a byproduct of livestock raised for food." Therefore, investing in a better supply chain will also help to alleviate the toll on the environment.
